When the house is booked for just one group, we recommend making the most of it: the sauna, breakfast and dinner in your own peace, without other guests sharing the space.
A suggestion for how a whole-house booking can work. We adjust the length and the content to match your group.
Three nights or more
The first evening is spent arriving. The second is when things get said out loud. On the third day people are ready to decide. That is why we recommend at least three nights for a whole-house booking.

The restaurant is the living room of the house

Breakfast is included in your stay. The restaurant opens in stages, and we will say more about the food once the kitchen is ready. For groups, meals are agreed in advance.
After breakfast the tables simply stay open. You can eat there, talk to someone you have not met or sit quietly with your laptop. Nobody will come and ask which one you are doing.
The eight seasons are our sundial
They guide everything we do: the rooms, the food and the programme. Winter is the season everyone knows. The other seven are the reason to come when there is room.

The fell, the forest and the lake start next door
Surrounded by fells, forests and lakes, Salla offers experiences for all the senses. The outings are arranged with local operators in small groups.
Hikes and snowshoeing
Salla National Park starts next door. Guide, snowshoes and provisions included.
Husky outings
With local farms, in small groups. Campfire coffee in the forest.
Reindeer outings
A reindeer walks beside you on the snowshoe trail. At the farm you hear how reindeer herding works here.
Skiing and slopes
The Sallatunturi slopes are about ten kilometres away. Lift tickets and gear are available from us.
Snowmobile safaris
Across the Ruuhitunturi fell with a local guide.
Sauna and ice dip
Steam, silence and cold water. Guided or on your own.
Aurora outings
We do not promise northern lights, because nobody can. Between September and April they show up often.
Summer on foot and by bike
When the snow is gone, the same landscapes are covered by bike and on foot. The trails start from the yard.
Canoe trips
The Salla river winds through birches and quiet still water. The trip suits first-time paddlers and experienced ones alike.
Tuntsa wilderness trip
The package includes two nights at the hotel and transport to the wilderness and back on the days you choose. You decide how many nights to spend in the wilderness, and a wilderness guide can join if you like.

Art weeks and music under the sky
Art weeks
Art meets nature. During the art weeks a visiting artist works in the house for a week and guests create alongside. Light, colour and silence are the material.
Music weeks
Melodies resonate under the Lapland sky. The music weeks bring Finnish and international artists to Salla: intimate concerts, workshops and evenings you do not forget.
Next year's programme is being built right now. We will announce the weeks as soon as the dates are fixed.

Responsibility is close to our hearts. Our operations follow the principles of the circular economy, built on respect for nature, local culture and the community. Good examples of this are our modules, which are built to be movable, and we choose food that comes from the closest producers.

EU rural development funding
The project carries out a complete renovation of the old hotel wing of Hotel Sallavalkea and builds extensions for a new reception, an enlarged restaurant and the aurora rooms above it. The renovation opens the house to new customer groups, especially in international markets. The project will be completed by September 2027.

How to reach us

- Sallatunturi fellabout 10 km
The airports are in Kuusamo and Rovaniemi. A return bus runs between Kuusamo airport and Salla for almost every Finnair scheduled flight. Rovaniemi is served by Norwegian as well as Finnair. By train you can reach Kemijärvi, and from there a return transfer runs to Sallatunturi except on public holidays.

When can I see the northern lights?
Between September and April they show up here often. We do not promise them to anyone, because nobody can.
When should I come?
Winter is the season everyone knows. Tell us what you are after and we will say honestly which of the eight seasons suits it best.
Can we book the whole house?
Yes. The booking runs for at least two nights. Get in touch and we will make you an offer.
Are diets catered for?
The kitchen adapts to every diet. Tell us when you book and it is handled before you arrive.
Are pets allowed?
Yes. The house has pet-friendly rooms. Tell us about your pet when you book and we will reserve one for you.
What is the cancellation policy?
The terms for room bookings are shown in the booking system when you book. The terms for group bookings are stated in the offer.
Can I work here?
Yes. The restaurant tables stay open after breakfast, the wifi works and nobody asks what you are doing. Groups have a separate meeting space.
